Dyeing natural yarns

Tingere filati naturali

Have you ever found yourself unable to find exactly the color you were looking for for a needlework or crochet project? Or maybe you need a little yarn of a certain color for some trim and don't want to buy the whole skein?

To get around these problems you can opt to dye the yarn in question yourself. This is easier than you think and gives you the opportunity to completely personalize your work.

Aybel dyes allow you to dye any natural yarn, consequently wool, cotton, but also hemp or linen. You can also create special shades by mixing several colors together, or even opt for a gradient effect with different colors.

The process by hand is the same as you would use for a fabric and you can find it here, however to make sure the phialto stays well immersed in the dye, you can place it in a plastic bag along with the dye bath.

Once dyed, you can store the dye bath in an airtight (preferably glass) container so you can reuse it several times if needed.
